We Wish You a Merry Crisp-mas!

We all go crackers for Christmas, and a good thing too, as a food artist from Gloucestershire has created a seven-foot Christmas tree, using cheddar cheese!

Every cheese lover’s festive fantasy, the hand-carved mature cheese marvel, which took three weeks to make, has been crafted to celebrate the launch of KETTLE® Chips’ new hand-cooked Mature Cheddar & Red Onion seasoning.

Decorated with traditional Christmas decorations meticulously carved from cheddar, the crisp-mas miracle was carefully crafted around a wire frame, adorned with 45 cheese baubles, dressed with 40 onions and topped with a star made completely out of the new and improved, intensely flavoured KETTLE® Chips.

Prudence Staite, the tree’s daring dairy designer at Food is Art, said: “In the past I’ve created artworks from numerous different types of food, but I’ve always wanted to make a sculpture using crisps, and I love cheese so this was the perfect project for me.”

Norfolk based KETTLE® Chips, which champions collaborating with high quality producers to develop their best-tasting chips, worked with Cornwall’s own Davidstow® Creamery, the tree’s cheese provider and a key ingredient in the new seasoning.

KETTLE®’s Innovation Chef, Phil Hovey, said: “So much of my job is about creating something new, so when I got the challenge to rejuvenate a classic the pressure was on. At KETTLE® Chips our priority is on doing things the right way, which is exactly why we chose to work with Davidstow – it’s has the perfect flavour profile for our new seasoning.

“For this launch we really wanted to hero the cheddar in the new seasoning, and commissioning a Christmas tree hand-sculpted from cheese does just that. It’s the focus of our new Mature Cheddar & Red Onion and it’s the focus of this masterpiece.”

The finished tree will take pride of place at KETTLE® Chips’ long-term charity partner, The Feed; a Norfolk-based café which does amazing work supporting the local community
