The Power of Hypnotherapy
Ade Hill sits down with Hypnotherapist Philip Purser from Clifton Down Hypnotherapy and discovers more about how he can help reduce stress levels and help you to adopt better patterns of thought and action.
What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?
This is the form of hypnotherapy practised at Clifton Down Hypnotherapy where we use positive thinking together with a cognitive approach to move towards your required goals. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy encourages you to use resources already within yourself to make the changes you require. We achieve this by focusing on the solutions rather than dwelling on problems
of the past. This has been found to be a highly successful and modern approach.
It is commonly assumed that you can explain your problems to the hypnotherapist who is able to hypnotize them away, but this is not the case. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is very much a partnership and joint effort between you and the hypnotherapist.
What conditions can hypnotherapy help with?
Where do I start? The list is endless. Just to name a few- phobias, anxiety, depression, anger and stress management, low moods, bad habits in general and modifying diet to manage diabetes or extra weight.
Hypnotherapy also helps to improve relaxation and treat insomnia. On another level it can also improve motivation, improve sport performance, minimize exam nerves and improve public speaking. In short, hypnotherapy releases you from the prisons of your own mind, eliminates the negative and attempts to bring out the best in you.
Tell us more about Phobias & fears, like spiders for example?
A phobia is an irrational aversion to or fear of something. For example, fear of snakes, spiders, heights, air travel, wasps, vomiting, the natural environment and even buttons! There are over 2,000 phobias listed. They cause little problem if you are not going to come up against them often in your everyday life, but they can present a real difficulty if you have to confront them regularly. Phobias and fears limit the things you want to do, or create a lot of unnecessary discomfort. It can be very effective and is a comfortable way of handling and eliminating fears and phobias.
Can you also help someone to give up smoking?
Certainly! This is my specialization. There was a recent report in the New Scientist quoting a study which states that hypnotherapy is the most effective way of giving up smoking. A Which? Report concluded the same thing and added that with hypnotherapy there were no cravings, no bad temper or irritability and no weight gain. Hypnotherapy is highly effective for those wanting to quit smoking but only if the person truly wants to give up.
Do you also do home visits as well?
I can treat people wherever they feel most comfortable either at my practice locations or arrange a home visit if you are nearby. I am happy to do weekends or evenings.
